Background:

Mr Esteves began his career as a computer technician at Banco Pactual in 1989, before moving to the trading and fixed income desk. From there, he was made managing partner in 2002 and he orchestrated the sale of Pactual to UBS for $2.6 Billion. He and his partners re-acquired the bank three years later to create its present-day operation, BTG Pactual, which went public in 2012.

Despite being involved in the 2015 investigation, Mr Esteves has since re-joined the firm as its Senior Partner and continues to play an active role in the firm’s ongoing operations, which returned $180 Million in net profit in Q2 2020. The firm has since significantly increased its international asset management capabilities as well as shoring up its ESG global outreach, with operations based in 8 different countries, including in the UK and the USA.

Mr Esteves also sits on the board of Conservation International, which has helped to protect more than 2.3 million square miles of land and sea across more than 70 countries. As an active philanthropist, Mr Esteves has also supported the development of multiple universities based in Sao Paulo and the renovation of the Esteves Hall at Harvard University.
