Background:
Frank Slootman is an experienced executive in the enterprise software industry, with over 25 years of experience. He previously served as President and CEO of Data Domain, a venture backed storage company, as well as Chairman and CEO of ServiceNow, a software company that develops a cloud computing platform. Since April 2019, he is the Chairman and CEO of Snowflake, valued at $4bn when he joined and later valued at $12.4bn in February 2020.
Mr Slootman was hired to lead the company public, which he successfully did in September 2020. Mr Slootman has delivered three companies to the public markets, making him one of the most respected executives in enterprise technology. Among these three companies, from Data Domain raising over $110 million in 2007 to Servicenow's $210 million IPO in 2012, is the biggest software IPO ever - Snowflake. The company raised $3.36bn making it one of the biggest IPOs of the year.
Amongst Snowflake's pre-IPO investors was Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway, which hadn't bought an IPO since Ford in 1956. Beyond this, the cloud computing company's future seems bright, their view being that businesses will increasingly rely on data and AI to make decisions.
Mr Slootman also invests in, and advises early stage ventures. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in economics from the Netherlands School of Economics, Erasmus University Rotterdam.
