SoftBank Investment Advisors: In May 2017, the SoftBank Vision Fund, which invests globally in the businesses and technologies that will enable the next stage of the Information Revolution, held its first major close with over USD 93 billion in committed capital. In 2017, SoftBank acquired private investment fund Fortress, where Rajeev previously worked.
The SoftBank Vision Fund is the largest private pool of capital ever raised. The investment fund focused on venture capital and growth equity investments, and some, of it's prominent investments, include Uber, WeWork, Ola, NVIDIA, Coupang, ByteDance, Oyo Rooms, Didi, Flipkart, Grab, Snapdeal, ARM, and Supercell.
Rajeev Misra is the CEO of the SoftBank Vision Fund and sits on the board of the SoftBank Group. He was formerly head of Strategic Finance of the SoftBank Group.
Rajeev worked at Merrill Lynch as a Managing Director, Deutsche Bank as Global Head of Credit Trading and UBS as their Global Head of Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities (FICC) before moving to Fortress Group and subsequently SoftBank.
Rajeev attended Delhi Public School and then IIT Delhi. He subsequently attended the University of Pennsylvania (where he was awarded a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and then a Master of Computer Applications). He then went to the MIT Sloan School of Management, where he received an MBA.
The SoftBank Group: The SoftBank Group was founded in 1981, 38 years ago, by Masayoshi Son. It also runs the Vision Fund, the world's largest technology-focused venture capital fund, with over $93 billion in capital.
The SoftBank Group's investment in Alibaba has been one of the (if not the) best venture capital investments in history (The SoftBank Group owns 26% of Alibaba, worth roughly $150 billion).
